Left: Colt's Burgess rifle featured a loading gate that slid forward rather than the spring loaded push-down loading gate of the Winchester lever-actions.
Made from 1883 to 1885, the Burgess lever gun was part of Colt's plan to provide a well-rounded complement of firearms to shooters. Only about 6,400 were produced before manufacturing was halted.
